![]() ![]() Death/Matter mage is very good at battlefield control, resources administration, transmutation and debuffing, but again, terrible social skills and very specific and limited offensive capabilities. A Forces/Prime mage is a powerhouse, especially against other mages, but he doesn't even have the Fate/Time mage's ability to use luck to brute-force his way out of social situations. ![]() But against a foe immune to his mental effects? He has no offensive capabilities. A Mind/Space mage will be excellent in social situations and will probably be able to have minions defending him. He will be terrible in social situations, unless he can brute-force it with sheer luck. A Fate/Time mage will wreck you in a gunfight, but he's awful at things he can't shoot at or curse. A prepared mage, on the other hand, will end pretty much any threat it can face.Īlso, individual mages are always good at one thing and bad at another. Also, an unprepared mage is often not going to be able to respond effectively to a surprise attack. All the other splats have some amount of inherent advantage that works regardless of their gifts/contracts/etc. Strip a mage of them and any other nWoD splat will tear him to shreds. The thing that mages suffer from that often gets overlooked is that they have no inherent advantages without their spells. is there anything Mages' magic explicitly can't do? Again, this comes from a person who doesn't own the books, so. Harry's pretty good at his job, if you ask me.Įxcellent, glad that's settled then. In the end, I think that ALL Wizards are mostly Forces/Prime, just with different applications of them. Spirit: Harry's got the willpower to run with some pretty scary ones, but for the most part, he's justified in avoiding the binding of such things. Life: Mortal magic in general seems to be pits for healing, and all transformation of living things runs under a Law ![]() For a wizard under middle age, he's decent. Prime: Harry is quite proficient with magic circles, and uses the Sight as well as any wizard. And Harry's done it anyway (remember Sue the Dinosaur?). Matter: Yeah, Harry's no good with Earth magic, though it's worth noting that most matter transmutation is just one of those things that wizards have tacitly agreed to keep to a minimum (lead to gold seems very gauche, at least).ĭeath: This one runs up on TWO of the Laws. Big-time wizards can outclass him, but people learning by themselves are outclassed by him. Space: His ability to scry and trace is suitable for a wizard, though he's by no means the top in the field. Can't blame Harry for not messing with it. Time: One of the Laws of the Dresden universe. Magical good luck seems even harder to come by than real good luck, for all mages. Fate: Entropy curses are totally a thing (and totally Bad Juju). ![]()
